- UK, Ukraine, and Turkey must lead “Super-EU” as Trump NATO exit looms
BY OUR POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT
PRESIDENT VOLODYMYR ZELENSKYY of Ukraine has issued a stunning “call to arms” for Britain to spearhead a massive new European defense alliance to stop Vladimir Putin in his tracks.
In an explosive intervention, the Ukrainian President warned that Europe is “defenceless” against the Kremlin without the combined might of the UK and Turkey. With the terrifying prospect of the US pulling out of NATO, Zelenskyy argues the current European Union is a “sitting duck” that must be totally reborn as a military powerhouse.
The “Big Four” Plan
Speaking on The Rest Is Politics podcast, the wartime leader laid out a visionary blueprint to secure the continent. He named four “strong countries” that must unite to form a shield against the East:
The United Kingdom
Ukraine
Turkey
Norway
”Together, the UK, Ukraine, and Turkey have armies that are stronger than Russia’s army,” Zelenskyy declared. “Without Ukraine and Turkey, Europe can’t match Russia.”
”With the four countries on board, you can wrest control of the seas, have secure skies, and the largest land forces.”
Security Over Strawberries
Acknowledging the political headaches of the past—including Brexit and Turkey’s long-stalled EU bid—Zelenskyy insisted that petty squabbles over trade and agriculture must be binned to ensure survival.
”You can manage all of this if you have a really great economy. But security comes first, economy second. Not vice versa,” he said.
The warning comes as Russia moves to expand its military to a staggering 2.5 million personnel by 2030. Zelenskyy warned that if Donald Trump follows through on threats to withdraw US support, the current EU “in its current form” simply won’t survive the coming storm.
The Military Balance
Under Zelenskyy’s proposed “Super-Alliance,” the numbers look bleak for Putin. By combining British high-tech naval and air power with the massive, battle-hardened ground forces of Ukraine and Turkey, Europe would finally hold the “big stick” in the East.
”It’s not about offense,” Zelenskyy clarified. “It’s about how to preserve independence.”
BACKGROUND: A Continent on the Edge
Zelenskyy’s comments reflect a growing “Plan B” panic in European capitals. For decades, the UK was the bridge between American might and European diplomacy. Since Brexit, and with the US pivoting away from Europe, a vacuum has opened.
The NATO Threat: Donald Trump has repeatedly questioned the value of NATO, leaving Europe’s “nuclear umbrella” looking flimsy.
The Turkey Factor: Turkey has the second-largest standing army in NATO but has been kept at arm’s length by Brussels for decades.
The British Role: Despite leaving the EU, the UK remains Europe’s leading military power alongside France. Zelenskyy’s pitch effectively asks Britain to return to the heart of European decision-making—not for trade, but for survival.
