The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) , Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu of carrying his despotism too far by seeking to bar some politicians within its ranks from contesting the Governorship election in Ekiti State, come 2014.
A statement signed by Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Tony Okeke said it is extremely undemocratic for Tinubu to tell a House of Representative member, in the person of Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele to forget his governorship aspiration for Ekiti in 2014, adding that by doing so, the former governor of Lagos State has displayed his despotic tendencies and utter disregard for the democratic process.
“This is extremely wicked and indeed the height of tyranny and outright disparagement for the people and their right to choose their leaders as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, he said.
He reminded Tinubu never to forget that he is not from Ekiti and as such has no right to decide for the people of Ekiti and called on the people to rise and defend their rights and reject the usual practice of allowing godfathers to unilaterally choose leaders for them.
“In openly endorsing Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for a second term and ordering Hon. Opeyemi to forget his ambition, Tinubu has clearly shown his resolve to truncate laid down electoral process so as to retain the system through which the resources of the state are being diverted to private pocket”, the party said
