LUHANSK, Ukraine – Voting is now underway in the region of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, the pro-Russian Ukraine in a referendum to formally join Russia.

A yes majority vote will formally integrate these region into Russia.  In fact, constant  attack on the pro-Russians in the region is part of the reason that President Vladimir Putin  gave for embarking on the “Special Military Operation” in Ukraine, which has lasted for more than 700 days.

The referendum, which seeks answers from residents if they want their regions to be part of Russia will go on for five days before the results will be announced.

This is coming as Ukraine said it has recaptured territory formerly annexed by Russia and now putting up efforts to take the remaining area still under control of Russia.

However, President Vladimir Putin has ordered partial mobilization of about 300,000 troops from reverse to join the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, western powers have rejected the referendum stressing that they will not accept the final result of the poll.

Over 180 polling stations have been set up for the exercise.
