    7 VIPS arrested for covered vehicle number plates

    LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has arrested seven very important personalities, VIP for covering their vehicle’s number plate in transit.

    Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotosho who made the revelation in Lagos did not disclose the identity of the VIPs but said their identities would be revealed when they are charged before magistrate courts. Once arrested, he said both the driver and owner of the vehicle are liable for prosecution.

    The commissioner who was speaking on Nigerian Info  said nobody is allowed to cover the number plate of his vehicles in transit, stressing that it remains a criminal offence liable to a fine of not less than N20, 000 or imprisonment or both at the discretion of the magistrate.

    He warned that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has warned that anybody that contravenes any traffic laws in the state will face the consequence whether or not that person is acquainted with him.

    He also disclose that the state government will in few days time auction vehicles impounded for driving against traffic on on BRT corridors.

    The commissioner said that that some routes now have  CCTVs, which he said are under test run pending when the state will deploy fibre optic cables to power CCTVs across the state to apprehend traffic offenders.

    He said recent enforcement of traffic laws has brought semblance of  sanity to Lagos roads.
