November 24, 2015 – Turkish military says it has shot down Russian aircraft for violating its airspace.
The Turkish military said it shot down the Russian military aircraft Su-24 on the border with Syria after repeated warning that two of its pilots were violating its airspace.
The warplane according to Turkish military officials was shot down by Turkish F-16s adding thaT the two pilots aboard ejected before the jet crashed in Latakia province.
The warplane according to Russian Defence, was flying at an altitude of 6,000m (19,685ft) when it was brought down.
The BBC reported that Syrian rebels said at least one of the pilots was dead. Russia, one of the major allies of Syria has in recent times being in the fore front of countries hitting targets of fighters from the Islamic State of Iran and Syria (ISIS).
Reacting to the development, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the incident as “very serious”, but cautioned that it was too early to draw conclusions.
