A GLAMOROUS Turkish referee has been slapped with a lifetime ban following the leak of an alleged sex tape involving a high-ranking official—but she insists the raunchy footage is a high-tech frame job.
Elif Karaarslan, 24, was sensationally stripped of her license by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) after a video purportedly showing her in a compromising position with referees’ supervisor Orhan Erdemir, 61, began circulating online.
The ruling body didn’t hold back, handing down permanent suspensions to both the rising star official and Erdemir, a veteran former FIFA referee.
‘Not Me,’ Says Ref
The social media star—who boasts thousands of followers—has come out swinging, claiming the video is a “Deepfake” generated by Artificial Intelligence to ruin her career.
Karaarslan has already launched a legal blitz to clear her name. Her legal team argues that the quality of the video proves it was digitally manipulated.
”A video was published on social media, which was not the original and was created entirely through AI from someone else’s social media account,” her lawyer stated. “It has no connection with my client.”
The young ref added: “I have a long road ahead of me legally, but I will overcome this in the strongest way. I expect your full support and love in this process.”
The Scandal Background
The TFF’s Arbitration Committee upheld the bans this week after a swift investigation into the “inappropriate” conduct.
Orhan Erdemir, who once officiated at the highest levels of international football, reportedly saw his decades-long career crumble in an instant. While Karaarslan is fighting the claims, Erdemir has reportedly admitted the incident has caused “irreparable damage” to his reputation.
Turkey’s footballing world has been left reeling by the scandal, which marks one of the most high-profile disciplinary cases in the federation’s history.
The Sun says: Whether it’s a tech-savvy stitch-up or a genuine red card for romance, this is one VAR check that’s going to take a long time to settle.
