ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa (Rtd) as the Special Adviser on Homeland Security.
The appointment, which was announced on Monday, is seen as a strategic move to bolster the nation’s internal security framework and streamline intelligence-driven operations.
In a statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the President noted that the choice of Fadewa was based on his “exceptional record of service” and “strategic expertise” within Nigeria’s national security architecture.
A Legacy of Intelligence Fusion
Major General Fadewa (Rtd) brings over 30 years of military experience to the role. He is widely credited with modernizing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination during his tenure as the Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser (NSA) between 2015 and 2021.
During that period, he spearheaded the creation of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC). The IFC serves as a critical multi-agency hub,
integrating data and strategy from:
The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA)
The National Intelligence Agency (NIA)
The Department of State Services (DSS)
The Nigeria Police Force
The Armed Forces of Nigeria
Academic and Strategic Depth
Following his retirement, the General transitioned into a roles focused on security reform. As a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, he authored the influential monograph, “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which advocates for stronger collaboration between security agencies and the civilian population.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, conveyed that the appointment underscores the administration’s commitment to tackling emerging threats through proactive risk management.
”President Tinubu expressed confidence that Major General Fadewa will enhance the administration’s efforts toward achieving a safer Nigeria through improved coordination of homeland security initiatives,” the statement read.
The President urged the new appointee to align his wealth of experience with the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on inter-agency synergy to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.
