JOS, NIGERIA
It was a Sunday afternoon where the stars didn’t just fail to align for Shooting Stars—they were unceremoniously blown out of the sky. In a ruthless display of attacking football at the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United delivered a crushing 4-1 blow to the visitors from Ibadan, proving that in the “Tin City,” only one team shines.
The Oluyole Warriors actually started the brighter of the two, threatening to live up to their celestial name. Just 12 minutes in, Qamar Adegoke silenced the home crowd with a clinical finish that gave the visitors a shock lead. For a brief moment, it looked like the Stars were on course to illuminate the Jos skyline.
But the light faded fast.
The hosts responded with the fury of a mountain storm. Just two minutes after falling behind, Tarabina Biweribo restored parity, capitalising on a defensive lapse to haul Plateau back into the contest.
The momentum shifted instantly, and by the 25th minute, the turnaround was complete when Harrison Ebah found the net to put the home side ahead.
The second half was a tale of total dominance. Any hopes of a Shooting Stars comeback were extinguished in the 55th minute when Vincent Temitope stepped up to the spot, coolly converting a penalty to make it 3-1.
With the visitors reeling and their defensive lines fraying, Alao Danbani added the final flourish in the 65th minute, slotting home a fourth to seal an emphatic Matchday 27 victory.
For Plateau United, it was a statement win that catapults them into the top half of the NPFL table. For Shooting Stars, it was a humbling afternoon where they were quite literally brought back down to earth.
