Stand up comedian, Ali Baba debuts in Tade Ogidan’s movie, Gold Statue

LAGOS, Nigeria – Nigeria’s comedy icon, Ali Baba has made his debut in the film industry, by featuring in Gold Statue, a film written and directed by Tade Ogidan, one of the best brain in Nollywood.

Tade Ogidan is one of the most daring filmmaker in Nigeria. He has shot a number of films, among which is Hostages, the first Nigerian film shot with helicopter in the early 90s.

Tade Ogidan practically left filmmaking and concentrated on TV shows, among which is the Teju Babface Show, a magazine programme that was presented by Gbadewonuola Olateju Oyelakin, better known as Teju Babyface. It was one of the best television show to come out of Nigeria but lack of sponsorship saw that brilliant show exiting the screen. His return to filmmaking where he made a very strong impression in the 90s is seen as a positive development to Nollywood.

Gold, which is due for cinema May 17 features among others, Richard Mofe Damijo, Alibaba, Sola Sobowale, Gabriel Afolayan, Kunle Remi, Rycardo Agbor, Kevin Ikeduba, Remi Surutu, Kunle Fawole, Segun Arinze and Norbert Young.

Others include Francis Onwochie, Tina Mba, Yvonne Jegede Fawole, Greg Ojefua, Sani Danja, Etinosa Idemudia, Adeniyi Johnson, Woli Arole, Bisola Ayeola, Kemi Afolabi, Simi Opeoluwa, Tunji Bamishigbin, Yinka Akanbi, Kalu Ikeagwu, Jibola Dabo, Yemi Shodimu, Peter Fatomilola, Lanre Bamgbose, Femi Durojaiye, Judith Audu, Adeyemi Motunrayo, Neale Atkinson, Simon Travers, Phil Wetherall, Jason Hurter, Robert Meijer, and Victor Oyebode.
