MAKURDI — The Benue State Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned the brutal murder of its Fiidi Council Ward Chairman in Makurdi Local Government Area, Hon. Igbu Job Terhemen.
In an official press statement released on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, and signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Agile Ordedoo Bem, the party described the killing as a “broad-daylight evil” and called on security agencies to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to details provided by the party, Hon. Igbu was ambushed and attacked by suspected hoodlums along the Makurdi-Otukpo road near the NNPC depot. The attackers allegedly tied him up with ropes, injected him with unknown poisonous substances, and abandoned him near his residence.
He was subsequently discovered in a semi-conscious state, unable to speak or communicate, before succumbing to the fatal attack shortly after.
Reacting to the tragedy, the State Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Ohini Ojegbe, called on the police and relevant security agencies to launch an immediate and thorough investigation to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all those involved in the crime.
Party Reacts, Honors Deceased Leader
The NDC paid tribute to the late ward chairman, describing him as a committed, dedicated, and loyal member whose contributions to the party’s growth in Makurdi LGA and Benue State were invaluable.
”Hon. Igbu Job Terhemen was a steadfast pillar of our party. His commitment and service will be deeply missed, especially at a time when his leadership was most needed,” the statement read.
The party extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Fiidi Ward, and all NDC members across Benue State, offering prayers for fortitude to bear the loss.
The murder of Hon. Igbu Job Terhemen comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Benue State and Makurdi LGA, where incidents of political rivalry, cult violence, and armed banditry have periodically posed severe threats to community leaders and local residents.
Political ward leaders in Nigeria often serve as the grass-root backbone for community mobilization and local administration.
Attacks targeting ward-level executive officers frequently raise fears of targeted political violence or rising local criminality. Security authorities in Makurdi are expected to launch a formal investigation into the poisoning and abandonment of the deceased to determine the motive behind the attack.
