Port Harcourt, Nigeria – Technical manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma says there is still a lot of work to be done as he watched his charges thrash amateur club, Grassroots Hunters of Oyigbo 10-0 in a practice game on Wednesday.

The game was United’s first in pre-season as last season’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) runners-up shape up for the 2016/17 campaign.

Eguma says the major objective at this stage is ‘to put the boys in shape’ ahead of a season that will see the ‘Pride of Rivers’ campaign on three fronts.

“We are trying to put the boys in shape as part of our pre-season exercise. Most of the boys just came back from their holidays and this game represented a good test for them.

“We still have a lot to do as we need to work on the physical and mental fitness of the team,” Eguma told the club’s official website, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng.

Rivers United finished in second place in the NPFL last season. They are one of the two clubs that will represent Nigeria in the 2017 Caf Champions League.
