ASABA — Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for flagging off the reconstruction of the critical 15.4-kilometre failed section of the Benin–Sapele Expressway.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, during the official flag-off ceremony on Friday at Amukpe, Sapele Local Government Area, the Governor highlighted that the long-awaited project will drastically ease the hardship faced by commuters and boost commerce across the regional transit corridor.
Addressing attendees at the site, Oborevwori noted that the State Government’s support for the intervention aligns with its broader infrastructural agenda. Delta State has already invested over ₦300 billion in repairing and maintaining federal road corridors across its territory, prioritizing public welfare over jurisdictional boundaries.
”Our focus remains squarely on completing projects that improve the daily lives of Deltans and visitors, regardless of whether a road is classified as state or federal,” Aniagwu stated on behalf of the Governor.
To ensure rapid execution and minimize traffic disruption, the 15.4-kilometre reconstruction project will feature durable rigid concrete pavement technology. Construction major CCECC and Ronin & Fan Limited have been contracted to execute the work simultaneously from opposite ends of the stretch.
