AWKA, Anambra – Governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), in Abia state Prof. Gregory Ibe has suspended all his political activities including publication of campaign materials and transmission of radio and TV jingles till further notice to honour late Prof. Uche Ikonne.
Prof Ibe in a statement issued by the Director-General of Prof Gregory Ibe Campaign Organization Sir, Longman Nwachukwu said the suspension of his campaign was as a mark of respect to the late Ikonne who was a fellow governorship candidate and colleague in the academic profession,
He said that he received with rude shock, the unfortunate death of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) governorship flag bearer, Prof. Uche Ikonne.
Ibe said , on behalf of his family, supporters and fans commiserates with the Ikonne family especially his beloved wife, Barrister Uzoamaka and children.
He also commiserates with the Abia State Government, especially Governor Ikpeazu, and the PDP family for the demise of the erudite scholar and Abia illustrious son.
According to him, Prof Ikonne will be remembered for his numerous transforms in the field of optometry nation wide as well as his contributions to the development of our dear state especially in the educational sector.
He prayed God to grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss and to also grant his soul eternal repose in heaven.
According to the younger Ikonne, the PDP governorship candidate died around 4am today, January 25, 2023 after a brief illness. He died at the National Hospital Abuja.
“He was recovering after taking proper treatment in the United Kingdom but relapsed a few days ago leading to multiple cardiac arrests for which he didn’t recover from”, he said.
