QUITO – Presidential candidate in Ecuador, Mr. Fernando Villavicencio has been assassinated.
He was shot dead in Quito while departing a campaign event. He was shot several times in the head and confirmed dead in the hospital.

The 59 year old journalist was killed just few weeks to the presidential election.
His assailant was said to have died in a shooting with policemen.
Reacting, to the incident, the Ecuadorian government said the election will go ahead as scheduled despite the assassination.
Fernando is firm critic of the government for not doing enough in the fight against corruption.
