Police kills 4 armed in attack on Anambra Police Station, recovers dangerous weapons

ONTISHA, Anambra – Operatives of Anambra State Police command say  they  have killed four  armed men   and recovered some dangerous  weapons.

A  statement issued by the command spokesman DSP Ikenga Tochukwu  said that  17 pieces  of 7.62mm live ammunition for Ak 47rifle, 107 pieces of expended 7.62mm ammunition for AK 47 rifle, 7 pieces of expended cartridges for pump action, 10 pics of expended 7.62mm long for Lar rifle, one big hammer, 3 phones and a wallet containing ID’s and some ATM cards were recovered.

Ikenga said that the preliminary information revealed  that one out of four demobilized miscreants, now late,  Mr Onyebuchi Okoye  34, led the attack on Aguata Divisional headquarters but was arrested 4th November, 2021.

According to him, during arrest   a revolver pistol and six 9mm ammunition were recovered from him   by Police Operatives.

Ikenga said that he  was charged to court for conspiracy to commit felony and unlawful possession of firearms under section 495 of the criminal code and was  on 21/01/2022 granted bail by the court.

In another development , he  said that   in Neni division, gunmen fled the scene due to the superior fire power of the police operatives on duty. He said both stations are intact and that no arm was lost.

However, the  Commissioner of Police Anambra State Police Command CP Echeng Echeng has charged Police Operatives of the Command to sustain and increase the tempo on the onslaught against crime in the State.

He  gave this charge ,while reacting to reports that  the police successful repelled an attack in the late hours of  13/2/2022 on Aguata and Neni Divisional Headquarters.  

The CP while reiterating on the unwavering commitment of the Command towards weeding out unrepentant criminal elements, enjoined  law-abiding citizens of the State to remain vigilant and continue to support the Command in the fight against acts of crime and criminality.
