AWKA, Anambra – A legal expert and public affairs analyst, Okoli-Akirika, has called on the Supreme Court to exercise its constitutional duty by providing a timely resolution to the lingering leadership and electoral disputes involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking on the growing judicial uncertainty surrounding these political entities, Okoli-Akirika cautioned that the apex court must act decisively to prevent the erosion of democratic aspirations in the country.

    The Danger of Judicial Delay
According to the legal practitioner, the continued delay in adjudicating critical political matters poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s stability. He noted that the ripple effects of such delays extend far beyond the parties involved.

“Postponing a matter of this magnitude will inevitably affect the entire political landscape—whether directly or indirectly, knowingly or unknowingly,” he warned.

He further emphasized that when political actors are subjected to prolonged uncertainty, the fundamental essence of the democratic process is undermined.

    Upholding Legal Precedents
Okoli-Akirika reminded the apex court of its own established stance on the necessity of speed in political litigation. He urged the justices to walk the talk by giving effect to their previous pronouncements regarding the urgency of election-related cases.

“The Supreme Court has consistently emphasized the importance of timeliness in election-related cases. It must now give effect to its own pronouncements,” he stated.
    A Call for Decisive Action

Concluding his submission, the analyst stressed that the interest of the nation’s democracy must take precedence over procedural technicalities.

He noted that the resolution of disputes within the PDP, ADC, and other related political bodies is vital for a healthy political ecosystem.

    Key Demands for the Judiciary:
Timeous Intervention: Avoiding unnecessary adjournments in sensitive political suits.
Decisive Rulings: Providing clarity to stabilize the internal structures of political parties.
Upholding Democratic Aspirations: Ensuring that judicial delays do not disenfranchise voters or candidates.

“This is the time for decisive action to ensure that all issues concerning the PDP, ADC, and related political disputes are resolved without further delay, in the interest of the nation’s democracy,” he added.
