September 12, 2014 – Judge Thokozile Masipa on Friday morning ruled that Oscar Pistorius is guilty of culpable homicide, which could see the Olympic sprinter spending a minimum of 10 years behind bars based on SA laws.

Pistorius was found guilty of this charge just a day after Judge Masipa found him not guilty premeditated murder.

In reaching that verdict, the judge said the athlete acted negligently when he fired through a toilet door believing that there was an intruder, killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

The Judge also ruled that prosecution failed to prove that Pistorius planned to kill his girlfriend but also found the athlete guilty of negligently handling a firearm that went off in a restaurant.
