    Okonjo Iweala advances in WTO job selection process

    GENEVA, Switzerland – Former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has advanced to the next round in the selection process for a  Director General of the World Trade Organisation, WTO.

    Okojo-Iweala who made the revelation on twitter thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS and many others for their various endorsement for the job.

    “Happy to have made it to the next round of @wto DG selection process. Heartfelt thanks to President @MBuhari and all @ecowas_cedeao Presidents for their unflinching support. Thanks also to COS, HMFA and his team, HMT and his team. And to all Nigerians for their Prayers thank you!”, the said.

    If appointed DG,  Dr. Ngonzi Okonjo Iweala  will serve WTO from 2021-2025, a five year period.

    In their letter endorsing Okonjo-Iweala for the job, ECOWAS noted since 1948, no African has become DG of either GATT or WTO, and called on all African countries and non-African countries to endorse her candidature.

    Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is Board Chair at Gavi  and  2-time Minister of Finance, Nigeria and former Managing Director Operations World Bank.

    Okonjo-Iweala currently serves as Special Envoy to Mobilise International Economic Support for Continental Fight Against COVID-19.
