The aborted NLC election

March 16, 2015 – The Trade Union Congress (TUC) today congratulated newly elected President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba and the NLC on its successful 11th triennial delegates conference during which new executive members were elected.

In a statement signed by President and Secretary of TUC, Comrade Bobboi Kaigama and Musa Lawal, respectively, the union noted that majority of Nigerians were initially disappointed, believing that the perennial malaise in the political class has caught up with the organized labour hitherto seen as the watchdog of the society.

The TUC said it is proud that that impression has been overturned adding that members of the NLC have proved that the political class has a lot to learn from the organised labour on how to handle elections and how best to manage misunderstanding among children of the same parents.

TUC charged the new leadership of congress to guard their energy  for the task ahead.

“The only way we can overcome our challenge as workers in a turbulent political terrain is to be united in purpose. Election has come and gone. It is not a do-or-die or a winner takes it all affair, nor is it a case of the victor and the vanquished. We all have won and that is the attitude we need to put up now if we must overcome the obstacles ahead of us”, the TUC said.

It assured leadership of the NLC of the cooperation  and called on all pre-election factions to dissolve into one united Nigeria Labour Congress, noting that the new leadership needs everybody to succeed.
