Former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori and hundreds of other Nigerians, now languishing in jail in the United Kingdom will soon be flown to Nigeria where they will serve their remaining jail terms.

This is coming as a result of the bilateral agreement the Nigerian Government signed with the United Kingdom that will enable both countries to switch prisoners between nations.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke and Minister of Justice in the UK, Jeremy Wright signed the agreement in Abuja, Nigeria.

Speaking during the occasion, Jeremy Wright noted that the agreement is paramount for Nigeria and the UK.

“It will create the opportunity for us to strengthen our partnership and ensure that prisoners from both countries serve their sentences in their home nations to provide for better rehabilitation services, he stated”.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuliri, noted that experts from both countries will henceforth deliberate together on the modalities for implementation of the plan and thereon, ratify and bring the programme into force.
