ALAKUKO, Lagos, Nigeria – A sixty years-old man, Usman Adebayo, an ex-security officer has appealed to an Alakuko Customary Court in Lagos, to dissolve his marriage for reason that his wife, Oluwakemi was denying him sex besides beating him when there is disagreement.
He alleged that the respondent was a troublesome person who does not allow peace to reign.
“She was not submissive to me and was not taking proper care of me as a wife.
“My wife lacks respect; she is stubborn, arrogant and not submissive. She is too full of herself.
We argue a lot over unnecessary issues. She has failed in her responsibility as a wife. My wife does not cook for me and she does not wash my clothes. I do all these all by myself and I have been labeled in the neighborhood as a “kitchen husband”, he said.
The petitioner also alleged that on several occasions in the marriage, his wife had denied him sex.
“ At a point, when I decided to relocate from where we were living to another location, she refused to move in with me with the children. She disrespects me a lot and she once dropped my name as her surname on all her official documents. I waited patiently for her to change but she refused to change, I had no other choice than to marry another wife which I did, twelve years ago. There has been no peace in this marriage; we live like cat and rat, she does neither loves nor cares for me.
“She slaps me each time we have any misunderstanding or argument. My wife had once slapped me because I asked her to pick her phone that was ringing.
“She also bought a landed property which she has started developing without my knowledge until I got to know from one of my children”, Usman added.
I don’t love her anymore, “the petitioner said. He pleaded with the court to dissolve the marriage saying, “I am no longer interested in the union’’. However, Oluwakemi the respondent, denied all the allegations leveled against her by her estranged husband.
She rather alleged that her husband is the type that will rather complain about everything rather than commending. After listening to both parties, the Court president Mrs. Alausa Oluwafunmilayo Oluwafunke adjourned the matter till April 27, 2017.
