YAOUNDE, Cameroon –  Morocco this evening outclassed Malawi at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, beating their opponent 2-1 to move into the quarter final stage at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Malawi started the game very well at the outset, moving ahead of the favourite team in the 7th minutes when Gabadinho Mhango found the back of the Moroccan net.

The Malawians held on for a while but just 3 minutes into extra time in the first half, fortune smiled on the Moroccans, when a strike by Youssef En-Nesyri hit the Malawian net, putting scores at 1-1.

The Moroccan  team came into the second half with a lot of zeal, following that timely equalizer at the nick of time.  But their efforts did not yield the desired result until the 70th minutes when Achraf Hakimi made it 2-1 for Morocco.

The Moroccan held on to the game, efforts by Malawian strikers to come back into the game was frustrated as the Moroccans held on until the final whistle at the 42, 500 capacity Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde.

In terms of statistics, the Moroccan team outclassed Malawi, securing 70 percent of total ball possession  against 30  percent by Malawi. Morocco had 8 shots on target against just one by Malawi.

Morocco equally had 10 corner kicks while Malawi had none, while Malawi also had  3 Yellow cards.
