IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – Mr. Ajayi Lekan, a Lagos resident has been charged with manslaughter for reckless driving, knocking down and killing Nwabueze Christian with his master’s Toyota car.
Lekan who committed the offence at 21:30 hours around Super Alimosho was today charged before Justice A. O. Ogala of an Ikeja Special Offences Court.
According to the prosecutor, the offence was committed on or about the 20th September, 2021, at about 21:30hrs, around Super Alimosho, Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division under the influence of alcohol.
Ajayi Lekan was futher alleged to have taken the key of a Toyota Tacoma with Registration Number KSF623GD belonging to his boss, drove it dangerously and recklessly and consequently knocked down one Nwabueze Christian (M) at Omiata area of Abule-Egba.
According to the prosecutor, the accused person committed involuntary manslaughter contrary to Section 224 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the offence. Further hearing has been fixed for April 13, by the trial judge, Justice A. O. Ogala.
Lekan could spend up to three years in jail if found guilty as charged.
