TEHRAN’S top diplomat has launched a blistering attack on European leaders, accusing them of “deafening silence” over Israel’s suspected nuclear weapons.
In a series of explosive comments, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed the West is turning a blind eye to an “atomic threat” while hammering Iran over its own energy program.
The firebrand minister didn’t hold back, claiming the “Israeli regime” has been “committing the most atrocious crimes for eight decades with full impunity.”
Speaking from Tehran, Araghchi fumed: “There is no crime it has not committed and no red line it has not crossed.”
His outburst comes as tensions in the Middle East reach boiling point. Iran has long been riled by what it calls a “double standard”—where Western powers demand Tehran scrap its nuclear ambitions while saying nothing about the “open secret” of Israel’s own stockpile.
Experts believe Israel possesses around 90 nuclear warheads, though the country maintains a strict policy of “nuclear ambiguity”—neither confirming nor denying they have the Big One.
Araghchi’s comments are a direct challenge to the UK and its EU allies.
He suggested that by staying quiet, Europe is effectively giving Israel a “free pass” to do whatever it wants in the region.
The Iranian FM’s “eight decades” remark refers to the history of the conflict since 1948, marking a significant escalation in the war of words between the two arch-enemies.
While the West continues to slap sanctions on Iran to stop them from getting the bomb, Araghchi insists it is Israel that is the real “unregulated” nuclear power in the Middle East.
The Nuclear “Open Secret”: Israel is widely believed to have developed nuclear weapons in the 1960s at its Dimona facility.
Unlike Iran, Israel is not a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and does not allow international inspectors into its sites.
The Iran Standoff: Iran is a member of the NPT but has been accused for years of trying to build a weapon under the guise of a civilian power program. Recent reports suggest Tehran has enriched uranium to near-weapons grade.
Who is Abbas Araghchi? A veteran diplomat and hard-nosed negotiator, Araghchi took over as Foreign Minister in 2024.
He was a key player in the original 2015 Nuclear Deal but has since taken a much tougher line against the West.
