October 13, 2014 – Employees of Lagos State Government in Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) on Monday protested what they described as failure by government to remit over N150 million deducted at source from salaries of workers to AOCOED cooperative society.
Armed with placards such as Where is The Money deducted at source from Our cooperative Society; Fashola Pay our Retiree ooo, You too go retireoo”, among others the protesters said failure by government to remit the money has run the cooperative aground.
Speaking in behalf of the aggrieved workers, Secretary Joint Action Fund (JAF) Comrade Abiodun Aremu called on the Lagos State Government to in addition to remitting the fund pay 17 months pension deducted from salaries.
The aggrieved workers also brought copy of the communique arrived at during a meeting by representatives of the AOCOED Joint Staff Unions(RAJSU) last Friday during which it was resolved that the Lagos State Government should without further delay review upward the funding of the college by increasing monthly subvention and granting immediate financial bailout to the college.
They also resolved that the Lagos State Government must pay with immediate effect all entitlement of retirees and stoppage of attempt by government to reverse retirement age from 65 to 60 years for some category of staff.
It also called on government to focus its attention on infrastructural development in the college as a matter of urgency adding that the aggrieved staff have resolved to carryout industrial action with effect from Monday 13, October until all the demands are met.
They also observed the workers have not been able to access their retirement benefit in the past three years.
