Lagos NUJ To Elect New Officers September 12, 2014

July 24, 2014 – The Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced that elections to pick a new chairman for the council will hold September 12, 2014.

The election will however be preceded by collection and submission of forms from Monday July 21 to Tuesday, July 29, 2014.

Display of provisional list is slated for Thursday July 31, while claims and counter claims will come up between 1st and 4th of August. Final list of contenders will be displayed from August 8th to September 13th, 2014.

Meanwhile the guidelines issued by the Lagos council of the NUJ stated that every interested aspirant to any of the posts must be nominated and sponsored by two financial members of his/her chapel and must be endorsed by the chapel Chairman and secretary.

“Chapel Chairman/Secretary must not endorse more than one candidate and must obtain form duly filled with the following:
(i) Two passport photographs.
(ii) curriculum vitae with copies of credentials
(iii) Two copies of letter of employment

All aspirants must however be practicing journalists for seven active years and must be of good standing and financial standing with the union; must have held chapel office, must possess current and valid NUJ national identity card.

The union however barred aspirant holding elective offices in any other professional association (e.g PRCAN, NIPR, NIMAC etc. Aspirant must have fully paid his/her check-off dues and professional fees and must have scored 50% attendance at the state congress/meeting and must possess a minimum of Diploma in Journalism or Mass Communication.
