August 1, 2014 – President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has sacked the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Andrew Yakubu.
No reason has been given for the sack but sources say it may not be unconnected with recent forensic audit of the NNPC following allegations of unremitted $20 billion to the Federation Account by the NNPC.
But Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Rubben Abati said in a statement that the President has approved the appointment of Dr. Joseph Thlama Dawha as the new GMD of NNPC, adding that the appointment is with immediate effect.
