Nigeria, May 26, 2016 – Rivers State Commissioner for Sport, Honourable Boma Iyaye has commended Rivers United and Go Round FC following respective victories recorded in the round of 64 of the Federation Cup on Wednesday.

Rivers United overcame Papilo FC 4-3 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo while Go Round beat Yobe Desert Stars 3-1 at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

Honourable Iyaye said the Government is pleased with the wins recorded by the two representatives of Rivers State in their opening games of Nigeria’s oldest football competition.

He also urged them not to relent in their efforts to bring the trophy to Rivers State this year.
“I want to congratulate Rivers United and Go Round FC for their victories on Wednesday. They should however not relent but continue to keep the flag flying and bring the trophy to the State.

“It is the dream of the Rivers State Government to see both Rivers United and Go Round FC play in the final of this year’s Federation Cup,” Honourable Iyaye said.

Rivers United and Go Round FC have now qualified for the round of 32 of the competition.
