February 27, 2015 – Fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) today invaded Mosul Museum in Iraq in their numbers and embarked on massive destruction of artefacts.

This was made known in a video that ISIS fighters uploaded online. The fighters were not wearing mask and they carried out this wanton destruction unhindered.

The fighters drilled and knocked down the art works indiscriminately with sledge hammers. Experts say some of the art works affected dated back to the Assyrian empire.

The museum was built in 1952.

Speaking on the development, Ahmed Rushdi described the attack as an attack aimed at inciting violence. He said the fighters destroyed the objects probably to protect the Iraqi from idolatry,  wipe out the cultural heritage of the Iraqi and make them to forget about the past.

He called on the international community and the United Nations to collaborate against ISIS.
