ABUJA, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has said it will hold supplementary election in all affected six states on March 23, 2019, about two weeks from now.

Elections were declared inconclusive by INEC in Sokoto, Kano, Bauchi, Plateau, Adamawa and Benue State. In a statement, INEC commissioner, and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Festus Okoye said the supplementary governorship election will hold along with state house of assembly election that were also declared inconclusive on thesame day to round off all the elections.

He said elections were declared inconclusive due to discontinuation of the use of smart card readers midway into the election or failure to deploy them, over voting and widespread disruption in may polling units.

Besides, he said the decision is in congruent with the Margin of Lead Principle derived from section 26 and 53 of the Electoral Act 2010 as ammended and paragraph 41(e) and 43(b) of INEC regulation.

He said INEC has considered the report submitted by Returning Officer for Bauchi concerning the disruption of the collation at Tafawa Balewa Local Government and that the commission was of the view that there are issues involved and consequently set up a team lead by the National commissioner to resolve them.
