IBADAN, OYO – The National Association of Catholic Lawyers (NACL), Archdiocese of Ibadan, would host its New Legal Year Mass thanksgiving, on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Oke-Padre, Ibadan, Oyo State, beginning with the Eucharistic Celebration at 9am, which would have as the Chief Celebrant, His Grace, Most Rev. (Dr.) Gabriel ‘Leke Abegunrin, Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan.
According to the duo of the Chairman of NACL, Archdiocese of Ibadan, Mr. Michael Agbolade and the Chairperson, Planning Committee, Dr. Patricia Ubiaza-Eze, this year’s edition is unique in a number of ways.
Firstly, it coincides with its Annual General Meeting (AGM). Secondly, it would feature public lecture with the topic “Faith, Justice and National Cohesion: The Legal Profession as an Instrument of Peace”, to be delivered by a former Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ibadan Branch, Mr. Akeem Agbaje.
The event would also serve as an opportunity to reflect on faith, justice and cohesion at a time the nation is approaching general elections. At the occasion, new wigs are to be welcomed into the profession, while the St. Thomas More Award would be conferred on some NACL members to recognise their outstanding contributions to the promotion of law and justice.
Distinguished guests expected include Catholic Bishops and members from the Ecclesiastical Province of Ibadan; Hon. Justice Peter Ige (Rtd), Patron of NACL Ibadan and Chairman, Board of Trustees of NACL; while the Chief Host of the Day is, Archbishop Gabriel ‘Leke Abegunrin.
Ahead of the day, members of Ibadan NACL have expressed appreciation to Archbishop Abegunrin for his unwavering support and fatherly care for the association and the legal profession in general.
“With your continued prayers and guidance, we are confident that this year’s celebration will be a meaningful and impactful occasion, advancing the mission of faith, justice and national cohesion, the legal profession as an instrument of peace in our Archdiocese and beyond”, Agbolade stated.
The Ibadan Branch of NACL is dedicated to promoting justice and upholding the rule of law by bringing together Catholic lawyers from across Nigeria to work towards a just and equitable society.
