July 4, 2014 – A human rights lawyer and community leader Barrister Olakunle Alexander Fadipe has been assassinated in Lagos. We gathered that the assailant also attacked the dead man’s son, Folarin and his mother-in-law.

Sources say the assailant who killed the lawyer with a knife was apprehended and handed over to police officers at Olowosokedile Police Station. We gathered that he gained access into the legal luminary’s home by scaling the fence and attacked Folarin who had opened the door to switch off the power generator.

The neighbour said Folarin who received severe wounds on the head and his right wrist was followed inside the apartment where he demanded for N500,000 when he sighted the late lawyer.

We gathered that the lawyer offered to pay less than the amount requested including the mobile phones and any other personal effects.The assailant was said to have insisted on the amount and threatened to kill the man if the amount is not given to him.

To achieve his aim the eye witness said he started stabbing him with the butchers’ knife and a kitchen knife obtained from the late lawyer’s kitchen.

Family sources said Fadipe, a former member of the National Huan Rights Commission (NHRC) and a member of the editorial board of The Guardian Newspaper was stabbed on the left side of the neck as well as the left side of the armpit and the stomach.
The Divisional Police officer (DPO) of the Olowosokedile Police Station Mr Olatunji Ajimuda confirmed the incident.

The police officer said he received the alert at about 12am Thursday night about the incident, saying the police has since commenced investigation into the incident.
