IKEJA, Lagos – A Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has condemned Ayodele Toyosi, the promoter of Reaprite Global Limited and Agrorite Limited, and his legal counsel, Chukwuemeka Maduagwu, for unprofessional conduct.

Justice Abike-Fadipe  was infuriated that they forged medical report which they presented in court in an apparent attempt to frustrate the trial.

At the resumed hearing, counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Deborah Ademu-Etteh, informed the court that an investigation into the purported medical excuse submitted on behalf of the defendant revealed glaring inconsistencies and falsehoods.

The EFCC’s probe showed that there was no referral from the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan to Reddington Hospital in Lagos as claimed in the medical report.

Further, there was no record of any surgical appointment scheduled for the defendant at the said hospital.

The forged report had previously been tendered by Toyosi’s lawyer, Chukwuemeka Maduagwu, to justify his absence in court, following which the court, at the last hearing.

The court then issued a bench warrant for the defendant’s arrest due to his continued non-appearance to face trial.

In light of these revelations, Justice Abike-Fadipe revoked the defendant’s bail and ordered his immediate remand in a correctional facility pending the continuation of his trial.

Toyosi is facing an 11-count charge alongside his two companies—Reaprite Global Limited and Agrorite Limited—brought by the EFCC.

The charges border on obtaining money under false pretence and stealing, involving over ₦600 million and $50,000.

According to the EFCC, the defendant lured several investors into parting with funds under the pretext of investing in agricultural export schemes with guaranteed high returns. Many of the investors have since come forward, alleging that they were deceived and defrauded.

The case has been adjourned till October 21, for further hearing, as the court reiterated its commitment to ensuring that justice is not undermined by deceitful practices.
