KANO, Nigeria – The Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf has given a directive that all the 26 entrepreneurship institute or skill acquisition centres closed during the tenure of Abdullahi Ganduje be reopened.

The centres were set up during the tenure of Rabiu Kwankwaso to empower the people of Kano State but they where shut down when Ganduje became governor.

While giving the directive, he said the centres had the mandate of equipping “our youth and women with soft and hard skills in different fields of endeavour”.

He said they were closed down and abandoned by the previous administration. “They are hereby reopened. Enrollment into these institutions will begin as soon as the necessary provisions are made”, he said.

Shortly after his inauguration, the governor visited the Kiru Reformatory School, which he said will be fully reopened soonest for the purpose of rehabilitating drug addicts.

He also set up a special task force against phone snatching.

“Due to the persistent cases of armed robbery (especially phone snatching), and other violent crimes being perpetrated on the streets of our State. We have formed a Special Joint Taskforce to fight phone snatching and other street crimes.

“This Taskforce comprises of teams from law enforcement agencies and mobile courts that would work together to clear our streets of these criminals and bring all of them to justice swiftly”, he said.
