BERLIN – Germany is opening its Olympic training centres for Ukrainian athletes to prepare for international events including the 2024 Games in Paris, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said on Wednesday.

Faeser, whose portfolio includes sport, said that “Germany is showing solidarity! That applies especially in view of the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics in Paris.”

A ministry statement added they want to allow Ukrainian athletes “in an easy way” to prepare for events, far away from the war in their country after Russia’s invasion. It said they were also in talks with sports federations on the issue.

Many Ukrainian athletes have been training outside of their country since the invasion started in February 2022, including in Germany.
