FEC Okays Confab Report for Immediate Implementation

[wysija_form id=”1″]March 19, 2015 – The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday  okayed immediate implementation of the 2014  Constitutional report for Nigeria.

Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Edem Duke made the revelation while briefing journalists after the weekly executive council meeting during which N48.7 billion was approved for National Deposit Insurance Corporation(NDIC) to build its corporate head office and another N38.6 billion approved to construction and rehabilitation of roads across the federation.

With the approval 774 local governments will now be delisted from the constitution and making Nigeria a two-tier federation.

There will be introduction of regional governments and abolition of the state independent electoral commission; creation of state police and 18 additional states. The report also has three year tenure for all local government chairmen. Abuja to become Mayor, removal of immunity from President and governors and each states is to have its constitution thus paving the way for regionalism.

Conclusion of all petitions before inauguration of all elected officers, Diaspora voting , stoppage of sponsorship for pilgrims, legislators to lose seat when they defect, abolition of onshore/offshore dichotomy and retention of 13 percent  derivation.
