August 12, 2014 – The Federal Government has been called upon to invest in vaccines for the treatment of Ebola and other related diseases.

The Amir Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Nigeria, Dr. Mashuud Fashola made the revelation during the formal presentation of report on the Ebola outbreak to leaders of the Islamic organisation, Hazrat Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih V in Lagos.

He said that the organisation is ready to work with government to combat the virus. According to him, everyone must examine his level of hygiene and comply with all laid down rules on how to avoid being infected.

Fashola enjoined all missionaries to start public enlightenment on the Ebola virus through Friday and early morning sermon in the mosques forthwith. He advised all Ahmadis to support activities and programmes of government to arrest the outbreak of Ebola in Nigeria.

He said the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Nigeria will be ready to assist government at all levels in this regard, through provisions of medical facilities as the organisations is noted for affordable health care services through its hospitals in Lagos, Kano, New Bussa – Niger State and Ijebu-Ode in Ogun state respectively.

He announced cancellation of all Islamic conferences slated for the remaining part of August and September this year to forestall any Ebola outbreak. Accordingly, the annual gathering of the elders of Ahmadiyya, Majlis Ansarullah scheduled for Ikorodu, Lagos this weekend has been cancelled.

Similarly all the vacation course programmes for the young boys and girls in the secondary schools and higher institutions billed for Ilorin ,Kwara state and Ijede , Lagos state were equally affected by the directive.

While regretting the financial loss on the preparations for the conferences, the Amir appealed to members for understanding.

He said the decision was informed by the Islamic injunction on the outbreak of epidemic/disease whereby followers were enjoined to avoid traveling out to places where the epidemic occurs so as to forestall spread of the disease.
