    DOPING: IOC SANCTIONS GOLD MEDALISTS, ILYA ILIN, MIANKOVA AKSANA, OTHERS

    LAUSANNE – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has applied the sledge hammer on 7 athletes for taking prohibited performance enhancing drugs at Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

    Among the affected athletes are 3 gold medallist and one silver medallists.




    The athletes are Ilya ILIN, 28, of Kazakhstan, who won gold medals after competing in the men’s 94kg weightlifting event at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and London games.

    According to the IOC Disciplinary Committee , composed for this case of Denis Oswald (Chairman), Gunilla Lindberg and Uğur Erdener, re-analysis of Ilin’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substance stanozolol.

    Others are Pavel LYZHYN, 35, of Belarus, who came 4th after competing in the men’s shot put event at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and Aksana MIANKOVA, 34, of Belarus, who obtained gold medal after competing in the women’s hammer throw event at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 and 7th at the London 2012 games.

    According to IOC, reanalysis of Miankova’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) and oxandrolone.

    Natallia MIKHNEVICH, 34, of Belarus, won silver medal after competing in the women’s shot put event at Olympic Games Beijing 2008.

    The IOC said reanalysis of Mikhnevich’s samples from Beijing 2008 resulted in a positive test for the prohibited substances methandienone and stanozolol.

    Also affected is Sviatlana USOVICH, 36, of Belarus who competed in the women’s 800m event, but won no medal.

    Also affected is Aksana MIANKOVA, 34, of Belarus. She was ranked 7th at the Olympic Games London 2012.


    Boyanka KOSTOVA, 23, of Azerbaijan, came 5th after competing in the women’s 58kg weightlifting event at London 2012 and Nastassia MIRONCHYK-IVANOVA, 27, of Belarus, came 7th after competing in the women’s long jump event in London.
