ABUJA — The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately upload and recognise the constitutional, modified digital logo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for all election-related activities.
Delivering the judgment, Hon. Justice J. O. Abdulmalik granted the prayers sought by the NDC in a suit filed to compel the electoral umpire to discontinue the use of the party’s former association logo.
The dispute arose after the NDC, following its inaugural National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, approved and submitted a modified digital logo to INEC. Although the commission initially uploaded the new symbol, it subsequently reverted to the old association logo without providing official reasons, prompting the party to seek judicial redress.
Reacting to the judgment, NDC leadership hailed the decision as a victory for due process and democratic governance, commending the judiciary for its timely intervention.
In an official statement issued by party leader HSD, the party assured supporters that the legal battle was part of the administrative challenges it is equipped to handle.
”We commend the judiciary for upholding the party’s legitimate position and ensuring that due process is respected. We thank God that the judiciary has once again vindicated our position,” the statement read.
Addressing internal concerns regarding campaign adjustments, the party leadership reassured candidates and members that there was no cause for alarm, acknowledging that while some candidates had already produced campaign materials with the old logo, both designs retain the party’s distinct two-finger victory sign.
Following the ruling, the NDC leadership issued the following directives to streamline its public branding:
Campaign Material Transition: All candidates, state chapters, and party members are directed to immediately adopt the constitutionally approved digital logo on banners, posters, and digital campaign platforms.
Public Awareness Campaign: The party announced plans to launch a nationwide publicity drive to sensitise the voting public and guide supporters ahead of the polls.
Internal Alignment: Leadership reassured members that sufficient time remains to adjust campaign materials without disrupting electoral preparations.
The NDC called on all members and candidates to maintain steadfastness as the party transitions fully to its constitutionally recognised symbol.
