    Coronavirus in Nigeria: China 121, Nigeria now 5445, see top 5 globally

    LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) on Friday confirmed 288 new cases of Coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria to 5445.

    Out of the 5445 cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria, 1320 patients have recovered and subsequently discharged while 171 people have died.

    However, a breakdown of the 288 new cases shows that 179 new cases were discovered in Lagos, 20 in Kaduna, 15 in Katsina, 15 in Jigawa, 13 in Borno, 11 in Ogun, 8 in Kano, 7 in Abuja, 4 in Niger, 4 in Ekiti, 3 in Oyo, 3 in Delta, 3 in Bauchi, 2 in Kwara State and 1 in Edo.

    Globally, there are currently 4, 523, 916 confirmed cases of Coronavirus, while 306, 412 people have died based on statistics from the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering, John Hopkins University, Maryland.

    According to the centre, the United States still maintains the lead among most affected nations in terms of population and the total number of deaths. The US currently has 1, 439, 434 confirmed cases, while 87, 204 patients have died, followed by Russia, the most affected nation in Europe in terms of the total number afflicted.

    Russia has reported 262, 843 confirmed cases, while 2, 418 patients have passed on. Following Russia is the United Kingdom, which has recoreded the highest number of deaths in Europe. The United Kingdom has reported 238,003 confirmed cases of the pandemic, while 34,078 patients have died.

    Next is Spain, which currently has 230, 183 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus while 27, 459 patients could not make it alive, followed by Italy with 223, 885 confirmed cases with 31, 610 deaths.

    While things seems to be getting worse in Europe and the United States, the Coronavirus pandemic has almost been eliminated from China where the pandemic originated.

    China now has 84, 031 confirmed cases, 4, 637 deaths while 79, 273 patients have recovered and subsequently discharged, leaving China with just 121 cases of Coronavirus.
