LAGOS, Nigeria – Christian Lawyers Fellowship of Nigeria(CLASFON) has postponed the much publicised Justice Adetunju Joseph Adefarasin Memorial Lecture as a result of events surrounding the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has forced government to restrict gathering of people to an initial 50 and now to 25 as part of efforts to curtail the spread.

The lecture originally slated for Tuesday, 31st March 2020 at the foyer of the High Court of Lagos, Igbosere with the theme, “The Challenges of Justice Dispensation in Nigeria: the role of the Bar and Bench” will now be held later on in the year.

In a statement, Prince Okey-Joe Onuakalusi Esq., Sub-Regional Coordinator, CLASFON Lagos said the event was postponed to ensure the safety of speakers, guests and attendees and that a new date will be communicated to invited guests.

According to him, CLASFON wishes to heed the warnings against large gatherings by the World Health Organization (WHO) and further adhere to the government advisory on public gatherings.

CLASFON urged all to play their part to halt the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic by observing the preventive measures of good personal hygiene to wit: frequent hand washing with soap and running water, use of alcohol based sanitizers where access to water and soap is limited and avoid touching of the face, especially the mouth, eyes and nostril and to gargle frequently with salt and warm water.

“We further enjoin you to avoid gatherings that you can do without and report to the nearest healthcare providers in your environment if you do feel ill. We again assure our esteemed guests and attendees that a new date will be announced as soon as the virus containment level shows positive numbers.

“We also use this medium to urge the Federal Government of Nigeria to give clear and proper directions on measures for containment to save Nigeria from the looming health crisis and the attendant effects on the economy”, he said, urging all to pray for Nigeria.
