By OUR MAN IN LAGOS
THE legendary Ahmed Musa was left a spectator in his own jersey as Ikorodu City tore the form book to shreds with a ruthless 3-0 demolition of Kano Pillars on Sunday.
In a sun-drenched Mobolaji Johnson Arena that felt more like a gladiator’s pit, the “Oga Boys” proved that reputation counts for nothing when the whistle blows.
While the Lagos fans turned out to see former Leicester City man Musa, they left chanting the name of their own local hero, Joseph Arumala.
The breakthrough came on 28 minutes when Arumala, the league’s most clinical predator, latched onto a loose ball in the box. With the composure of a man who knows his worth, he slotted past the helpless Pillars keeper to notch his 12th of the campaign.
Pillars, led by the evergreen Rabiu Ali and Musa, tried to orchestrate a comeback, but the pace of the Ikorodu youngsters made the visitors look every bit their age.
If the first half was a punch to the gut, the second was a clinical knockout. On 72 minutes, Toyeeb Oyedokun doubled the advantage, finishing a sweeping team move that left the Kano defense chasing shadows.
As the clock ticked down and Musa cut a frustrated figure on the flank, the final nail was driven in. Abayomi Ayodeji capitalized on a defensive horror show in the 88th minute to make it three, sparking scenes of delirium in the stands.
For Ikorodu City, this wasn’t just a win; it was a statement. For Kano Pillars, however, the “Sai Masu Gida” are in a world of trouble.
Despite the star power of Musa, they remain precariously close to the drop zone, with their travel sickness showing no signs of a cure.
Ikorodu City: Arumala (28′), Oyedokun (72′),
Ayodeji (88′)
Man of the Match: Joseph Arumala (Ikorodu City)
