PARAGUAY – Brazilian football legend, Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, better known as Ronaldinho Gaúcho has been released from prison. The footballer who has been in jail in Paraguay was released and thereafter placed under house arrest.

Ronaldinho and his brother Roberto Assis were arrested last month for using false passports to enter Paraguay. They were subsequently charged and put in jail. They were released after spending 32 days in custody.

They were released following a ruling by a court in Paraguay. The presiding judge, Gustavo Amarilla ruled that Ronaldinho and his brother can live in a hotel in Asuncion to await trial.

Ronaldinho and his brother had travelled to Paraguay to take part in a number of promotional events, however, they were found to have produced false documents.

Lawyer to Ronaldinho had argued in court that his client was gifted the Paraguayan passport and that his client was not aware he was doing anything wrong by using it.
