Media organisations around the world have been cautioned against referring to the terrorist group Boko Haram as ‘Islamic terrorists’, ‘Islamists’ or anything else involving the word ‘Islam’.
Professor Faheem Younus and the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Nigeria, Dr. Mashhud Aderele Fashola who made the observation at a press briefing in Lagos said the despicable acts done by the group in kidnapping schoolgirls who are even Muslims shows that they are evil people who have another Devilish mission entirely.
“Slaughtering of people in churches and mosques has absolutely nothing to do with Islam. In fact, the claim by Boko Haram’s leader that its actions are based on Islamic principles is ‘blasphemy’ of the worst kind”, She said.
Younus who is also a philanthropist made references to one Nicholas Kristoff write-up in recent edition of The New York Times: “The attack in Nigeria is part of a global backlash against girls’ education by extremists. The Pakistani Taliban shot Malala Yousafzai in the head at age of 15 because she advocated for girls’ education. And in Nigeria, militants destroyed 50 schools last year alone”, Younus said.
“So end this sensationalism, please. Let’s bring the filthy thugs of Boko Haram to justice. And let’s stop elevating their status by liking them to Islam in our headlines henceforth”, She remarked.
In his address, the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Nigeria, Dr. Mashhud Aderele Fashola declared “Prophet Muhammed who brought Islam, seek knowledge and asked his followers to even leave their soil to other parts of the world to seek for knowledge. He did not at any time ever stopped anyone from seeking knowledge both Islam and western education”.
“Gentlemen of the Press, please stop all the abuse of words by referring to the Boko haram group as Islamic extremists. They are devil who want to destroy the country under religion guise”, he said.
