TOKYO, Japan – Nigeria’s sprinter, Blessing Okagbare  has been suspended from taking part in the 100 metres sprint at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympic in Japan.

She was suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit(AIU) after testing positive to a human growth hormone.

Growth hormone according to the AIU, is a non-specific substance on the 2021 World Anti-Doping Agency(WADA) prohibited list. “A provisional suspension is mandatory following an adverse analytical finding for such substance under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules.

The AIU collected the sample from Okagbare during an out-of-competition test on July 19, 2021. The WADA- accredited laboratory that analysed the sample collected notified the AIU of the adverse analytical finding at midday Friday, July 30, 2021.

Blessing Okagbare who was notified this morning is scheduled to take part in the 100 metres sprint in the evening before her provisional suspension came.
