LAGOS, Nigeria – Life in prison has began in earnest for Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James Omiyinka better known as Baba Ijesha as he was denied bail by a Yaba Magistrate Court where he was arraigned today.

Baba Ijesha  was charged with indecent treatment of a child, defilement of a child, sexual assault by penetration, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault, contrary to sections 135, 137, 261, 202, 262 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.

He however pleaded not guilty to all the charges.  Prosecutor S.A Adebesin informed the court  that an information had been filed before the High Court.  Responding  lawyer to Baba Ijesha , Kayode Olabiran made a fresh application for bail.   But his request was turned down since the  Lagos State Ministry of Justice had filed charges before a high court.

Baba Ijesha was brought directly from prison following his failure to meet up with earlier bail condition of providing a surety with Grade Level 16 in the Civil service. Upon arraignment, Magistrate P. Nwaka  noticed his frail health and directed the state to avail him with medical service.

Baba Ijesha was after the hearing lead to prison where he will sojourn for the rest of his life unless he is discharged and acquitted of all charges.  He will serve a minimum of 20 years if convicted.

In Lagos State, victims accused of sexual assault and defilement are not granted in court.
