Atiku Abubakar to Storm Lagos Assembly to Drum Up Support for Presidential Ambition

October 21, 2014 – Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who is seeking to fly the flag of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 Presidential election has notified the Lagos State House of Assembly of his intention to visit in continuation of his nationwide tour to rally support for his ambition.

In a letter read on the floor of the House by the Clerk, Ganiyu Abiru, the ex- Vice President expressed his readiness to contest the 2015 presidential election.

In the letter which was signed personally by Abubakar, the APC aspirant said members of the Lagos State House’s support is needed to actualize his dream.

While expressing his readiness to pay the visit, Abubakar noted that lawmakers pivotal role in the party made it necessary for him to propose such visit which he said will be an interactive forum.
The Adamawa born politician had on September 23rd during a press conference in Abuja declared his intention to contest the presidential election.

Atiku Abubakar who was the Vice President between 1999-2007 under ex-president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo had contested the presidential elections in 2007 on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and also contested the presidential primary in 2011 alongside president Goodluck Jonathan under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost in all the elections.

Speaking during his declaration, Abubakar promised to focus more on education and youth development among others. “I have what it takes to bring people together and turn things around for better. I want to play a leading role in the trans-generation efforts to save this country and improve the lives of our people.

“I have decided that I will by the grace of God, along with other respected members of our party, seek nomination as a candidate of the APC to contest the presidential election 2015,” he said.

Alhaji Abubakar is currently contesting the presidential primary alongside with former military Head of State, Maj. General (retd) Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).

While responding to Abubakar’s letter, Speaker of the House, Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji said he would communicate members once he gets details of the visit.

“I don’t have the details, immediately we have the details, it will be sent to all members,” Ikuforiji said.
