September 25, 2014 – Governor-Elect of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has raised an alarm, alleging that the All Progressive Congress (APC) is planning to frustrate his inauguration in October and install Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin as Governor of the State.
Fayose who spoke at a press briefing in Lagos alleged that Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Simeon Daramola is an interested party being a member of E11.
“I was out of the country, returned to Nigeria and decided to stay back in Lagos to avoid being tagged as having knowledge of the event, the whole scenario was orchestrated by person working against my emergence as governor of the state. It is a political issue; it has a political undertone. It is good to let Nigerians be in the picture. The whole scheming is just about the All Progressives Congress (APC) trying to obtain judgment through the backdoor after losing the election. You can recall that Segun Oni lost his tenure due to backdoor judgment. I have heard about a lot of development in our state. But I want to tell you we will not allow any backdoor – Jankara judgment. Their plan is to install the Speaker of the state House of Assembly as governor.
“ It is regrettable that the court process is disrupted but don’t forget the average man on the street knows what he wants. My party and I will not allow the APC to bring back the Salami days. We will go through all the process to make sure that they do not truncate the mandate freely given me by the Ekiti people. We will implore all the authorities in the executive, judiciary and others to beam their searchlight on the matter. I don’t have confidence in the Chief Judge because I have alleged him to be a member of the APC. Will it not interest you that less than 24 hours the judge has turned in the case file. He is rushing the case to satisfy certain interest. Our chief judge is an interested party, being a member of E11. We want a judge who wants to carry out his job as a judge.
“We heard that he wants to assign the case to himself. Their target to frustrate the inauguration or foster the Speaker on the people will not be allowed. Since some persons have been arrested in connection with the attack on the court, appropriate authorities should investigate and get to the root of the matter.”- Mr. Ayodele Fayose, Governor-Elect of Ekiti State, Nigeria”, he said.
