LAGOS, Nigeria – Not less than 66 passengers are having cause to thank God when they survived what would have been an air disaster in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The plane, Boeing B737-500 aircraft with registration number 5N-BQR took off from Abuja and had the accident while landing at the Ilorin International Airport on Friday morning.

There are reports that the plane crash-landed at the Ilorin International airport when one of the tires burst in motion, throwing the passengers into  a frenzy, with many praying to God to spare their lives.

So far, nothing happened to any of the passenger and crew member. They are all said to be safe. Reacting to the incident,  Air Peace said there the affected aircraft did not crash land contrary to online media reports.

According to management of the airline, the online media reports misrepresented and exaggerated the facts.

“We can confirm that the aircraft in question landed safely but had a minimal tyre burst while taxing. This debunks all the mischievously headlined reports circulating online, which should be disregarded.

“Our aircraft neither crashed nor crash landed in Ilorin or in any place for that matter. This kind of sensationalism is bad and was intended to cause panic in the minds of the flying public”, Air Peace said.

The management said the incident was duly reported to the authorities and that passengers disembarked seamlessly. “The tyres have, however, been fixed and aircraft is intact. We condemn sensational publication of falsehood”, the airline said, adding that Air Peace is committed to providing peaceful connectivity across cities and relentlessly observes the highest standards of safety in its operations.
