IBADAN, Oyo, Nigeria – The President of the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria, OAAN, Tunde Adedoyin has underscored the need for a robust engagement with stakeholders in the industry as a key factor in determining the future of Out Of Home advertising in the country. Adedoyin made the assertion during the 33rd Annual General Meeting of OAAN held last weekend in Ibadan, Oyo state.

According to him, “there has never been a better time for all stakeholders to come together and forge a common front to face the future of advertising. Globally, there has been huge shifts in the practice and we are particularly challenged in a lot of ways in catching up with the trends; coming together will ease these challenges.

“Locally too, there are a number of issues confronting individual advertising companies and as the umbrella body, we have resolved to engage key stakeholders and together chart a course that would deliver value to every party.” He added.

He emphasized that the unmitigated impact of the many challenges confronting the industry has been having effect on job creation and sustenance which in turn impacts on the employment rate.

“Our industry contributes immensely to the employment market and there is quite a number of industries that depends on the smooth running and expansion of the job created here to build a secondary market; much less the impact of the individual member firm professionally deploying their service. It is phenomenal, how much our impact adds to the economy,” he adds.

At the meeting, attended by over 100 members of the body from all parts of the country at Owu Crown Hotel; strategic sessions were held, which included a review of the practice in Nigeria by an expert, with a window into the future of OAAN. The Governor of the host state HE Abiola Ajumobi also sent his goodwill messages and enjoined the association to raise the bar in service delivery for the respective government.

A key aspect of the AGM was the business meeting where reports on the governing of the industry was given to members, while projections for the future of the industry was presented by the executives of the association. The session also included the admission and upgrade of membership status of respective members of the association.

General Secretary of the association; Femi Ogala, said that going by the responsiveness and the quality of issues raised at the meeting, it was certain that the coming business year is one to look forward to.

“Our industry is a microcosm of the national economy and like many have agreed at the AGM, we need to adapt and take some strategic steps to match the growing opportunities, trends and challenges that the industry is presently facing” he said.
